Anxiety Disorder And Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Essay

Anxiety is a general term for several disorders that causes nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. These disorders affect how we behave and feel, and they can manifest in real physical symptoms (Costa). There are different types of ways anxiety manifests itself, it mainly depends on the situation the average person is put under, even though at times there does not have to be a situation going on for someone to feel anxious. There are three major types of anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive -compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Smith). Each and every single one of them has different symptoms, and different ways it affects someone. These three disorders are a real thing, and they affect real people in ways that makes it difficult to live a life others would say is normal, although sometimes some people do not see it as a legitimate medical issue, but they are. Out of the the three major types of anxiety one of the most common ones is gene ralized anxiety disorder (GAD) however, there is no brief clinical measure for assessing GAD (Spitzer). Generalized anxiety disorder is characterized by an excessive and inappropriate worrying that is persistent and not restricted to particular circumstances. Patients have physical anxiety symptoms (such as tachycardia and tremor) and key psychological symptoms, including restlessness, fatigue, difficulty in concentrating, irritability, and disturbed sleep(Stolerman).
